All you need is a 12 volt relay.   Your backup light voltage (&quot;A&quot;) goes to one end of the coil.   The other end of the coil goes to ground. 

Cut the license plate light wire, and connect both ends to the &quot;Normally Closed&quot; contacts of the relay. </description>
